A MESSAGE FROM

PRESIDENT CAROLANN BIEDERMAN

Aloha mai kākou,

We hope that everyone who attended last Tuesday’s meeting with Ray Vara, President and CEO of Hawai‘i Pacific Health, left with more clarity about the proposed One Health Hawai‘i plan. More than 50 Rotarians, former members and international guests enjoyed fellowship and an inspiration by Rick TaborYumi Kojima, a visiting member of the Rotary Club of Osaka Uneda, and her young daughter Yui Kojima presented their club’s banner. There was good news from Rob Hale about construction of the long-awaited new fencing for Centennial Park Waikīkī. The work, which begins on July 27, is expected to take three months. The park will be closed to the public during that time. Centennial Park Info link here.  Brian Dunkel shared the sad news that Jessica Lani Rich’s husband, Richard “Rick” Texier passed away on July 15 and memorial services are pending. Our thoughts are with Jessica and her ‘ohana.

The object of Rotary is service, and I’d like to encourage you to come out to Kokokahi YWCA on Kāne’ohe Bay Drive on Saturday, August 1 for our Club’s first Community Service landscape cleanup project of the new Rotary year. This “Service above Self” workday is a great way to connect with each other and invite potential new members to experience Rotary in action. Bring your friends and extra tools like work gloves, trimmers, weed whackers, rakes and loppers. The Y will provide the rest and host lunch for our crew. Please click here to sign up.

The Rotary District 5000 Conference is planned for August 21-23, 2026, at the Keʻehi Lagoon Memorial, Weinberg Hall. The theme is “Peace Through Leadership” and Rotarians and their families from clubs around the state are expected. Participation expands your understanding of Rotary, strengthens our District, and opens doors to new connections and friendships.

Our next Pacific Club meeting is Tuesday, July 28 featuring speaker Jason Chang, President and CEO of The Queen’s Health Systems. His topic is “The Future of Healthcare in Hawai‘i” which will offer insights and perspectives on this significant issue that impacts all of us.

Have a wonderful weekend, and l look forward to seeing you next Tuesday at the Pacific Club!

Mahalo nui loa,

Carolann Biederman
